Are You Ready for Winter?

Dean Hilliard, President of AC&R Services

Another summer is past and colder weather is just on the horizon. Are you ready? Energy prices continue to increase annually. So what can you do to make your home more energy efficient?

Most people believe that having a well-maintained, efficient heating system is all they need. But, even with an efficient heating system, if you don’t minimize the heat lost from your home, that heating system will have to work longer and harder to maintain comfortable heat in your home. Sealing up doors and windows in your home and adding insulation is important…but what about the air distribution system for your heating unit. How well is that sealed? If your air distribution system is not sealed properly and leaking air, you could be increasing the heating requirements on your furnace or heat pump by up to 50%. It is one place that most homeowners don’t even consider as a big energy user. There are ways to test your ductwork. One way is through a pressure test using a machine called a duct blaster. It measures the amount of air being lost through the system. And there are products and ways of sealing your ductwork without having to replace it.

So, are you really ready for winter??
